Ukraine’s “oligarch” bill

Ukrainian oligarch and politician Vadim Novinsky. Born in Russia's Novgorod region, Novinsky has made his fortune from metallurgy, shipbuilding and cooperation with the Russian Orthodox Church. Estimated to be the third-richest man in Ukraine, he currently serves as the head of the pro-Russian Opposition Bloc party in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament.

The recent introduction and subsequent passing on the first reading of what has become known as the “oligarch” bill is a sign of the general failure of Ukraine’s political, judicial and regulatory processes in its quest to transform its political culture.
